Innovation culture based on design thinking

IDEO is the world’s most admired design agency. People like David and Tom Kelly were forerunners using design thinking for developing new products and services. Recently, the design thinking method was transformed into an approach for transformation towards innovative organizations and innovation culture. IDEO calls this concept “leading for creativity”. We visited their SF office – nicely located at Pier 28 in San Francisco.

Measuring & improving employee's happiness

Employee (dis)engagement is crucial in business but poorly measured. A normal employee satisfaction survey provides lots of data, but very little actionable information and treats satisfaction or happiness as an absolute state of mind, which is in reality never the case.

Belief and economics of self-managed organizations

We had the pleasure to meet and discuss with Doug Kirkpatrick, who is the former CFO of Morning Star, the world’s largest tomato processor and long term self-managed organization. He is a consultant and book author of ‚Beyond Empowerment: The Age of Self-Managed Organization’. We discussed ways of transformation towards self-management and discovered the two at first sight contradictory elements: Belief and Economics.

Commitment despite multiple job changes?

Long life employment is a model of the past. On one hand companies all over the world are reducing more and more their core staff and increase cooperation with freelancers, consultants, etc. On the other hand people themselves are changing employers much faster. In Silicon Valley the average software engineer stays for 18 months with one company – a software engineer in Europe sticks to a company for up to 10 years. But even in Europe this number will drop.
